Deplorable (October)

Impossible not to see the contest, as it enters October, like Lewis Carroll. It’s innately comic to call sections of your rival’s supporters deplorable, a word from the educated Victorian drawing room. Hillary Clinton stands at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party expressing the opinion that this is deplorable. Predictably, the Hatter makes faces, complains and lectures, his conversation in a parallel universe to Alice’s. His friends are either Hares trying to stop time or Dormice asleep for the duration. In the absence of commonsense, deplorable takes on whole new meanings. By tomorrow, Alice’s gaffe becomes just part of the story.
